Thank you for your interest in GMS Photography Club!  We are so happy to lead GMS into our seventh year, as we have lots of new things planned for our photographers!

About GMS Photography Club:  Our club is part of a larger non-profit organization called “i.imagine,” which provides photography education after school programs to students in NKY and Cincinnati.  Shannon Eggleston is the founder of i.imagine and oversees the GMS class.

Class Description: Each class will touch on three basic principles.  First: the fundamentals of photography.  We pack a lot of science, technology, math, and of course art into our instruction, helping the students get familiar with the cameras and start to take good photographs.  Second: the artistry of photography. We discuss how the human eye is naturally drawn to particular artistic elements and help the students develop their own artistic vision.  Third: social issues. Every class will cover a relevant social issue facing teens, exploring how these issues and the emotions/feelings they generate can become stories told through photographs, rather than words.

GMS Photography Club is a judgement-free zone.  It’s impossible to feel free to create and express yourself if you feel that others might criticize you.  We are a family of photographers that focus on the beauty in the photos we take, and more importantly, who we are as human beings.

Meeting Date/Location/Time: Students that are brand new to GMS Photography Club will join our "Juniors" class, which meets right after school in room 181-1, from 2:40 - 4:00pm every Tuesday from September until early May.  Students that have participated actively in our club in the past have the opportunity to move up to the "Seniors" group, which meets at the i.imagine Center of Photography, located within one mile of GMS.

Parent/Student Communication:  Primary communication will come via email.  I will use the "Band" app to communicate directly with your child and others students. Students will receive an invite to the band app via email or text. We encourage parents to join as well, in an effort to keep everyone up to date on new infomation throughout the year.

Cost:  GMS Photography Club is broken into two sessions throughout the school year.  The first session starts at the beginning of the school year and ends in December. The second session begins in early January and ends in early May.  Each session costs $75, which includes exhibition supplies and prints, camera equipment, exhibition venue fees, and grand opening reception refreshments.  The total cost for the year, if you participate in both sessions, is $150.  Cost will never be the reason that your child can’t participate.  Please contact Shannon Eggleston or Mr. Ryan and we will confidentially accommodate your needs. Students can turn in enrollment fees during our weekly meetings. Please make checks payable to "Gray Middle School."

Do I need to bring my own camera?  If you have a DSLR camera, I highly encourage you to allow your child to use it!  We will cover care and maintenance, and your child will likely be able to teach you how to get the most out of your camera.  If you don’t have a DSLR camera, no worries!  We have camera kits available for your child to borrow, which they’ll get to keep at home and take on trips.  There is no additional cost to borrow.

There are many different brands and models.  The most important element for our class is that your camera has “manual exposure.”  If you have questions about this, contact Shannon Eggleston at info@iimaginephotography.org or call at (859) 801-1045.

How do I sign my child up?  You can enroll right here on our website!
